Soppkongen
Er du blitt invitert til en soppmiddag og trenger en liten gave til vertskapet- look no further. This is it.
Boken kommer ikke til å få Nobelprisen i litteratur; jeg er fristet til å kategorisere den som "høyere kiosk". Men boken er spennende å lese.
Har du litt soppkunnskap taler den direkte til deg:
- Flere kapitler begynner med beskrivelse av en sopp (Liksopp, silketrevlesopp m.v.) som en forvarsel om det som kommer.
- Forfatteren sammenligner flere i persongalleriet med sopp (Agnete var grå og kjedelig - som en brunskrubb).
Boken er et soppeventyr, en "page turner" som kan anbefales, særlig til alle med soppkurv i gangen.

Soppkongen
Er kommet til side 26 og det er kun én ting å si: dette er definitivt en bok for alle soppinteresserte.
Gunnar (22 år) er sønnen til den karismatiske soppeksperten Holger Haglund.
Vi blir med Gunnar på farens soppkurs. "Hva er en sopp?" spør soppkongen.
Det er nesten som å være på Neslekremlas soppkurs igjen.
Jeg lærer bl a at en forskjell mellom stubbeskjellsopp og den giftige flatklokkehatten er at skjellsoppen er litt klebrig. Godt å vite.

New York Mycological Society's New Year Banquet 2012
Soppdagelse's New York correspondent attended the New York Mycological Society (NYMS)'s New Year Banquet in Chinatown last weekend.
2012 is the hundredth anniversary of the composer John Cage's birth. Cage was a co-founder of the NYMS, an avid mushroom hunter and serious mycologist. Cage told stories about mushrooms and mushrooming in his books and in his music.
Gary Lincoff read some of Cage's stories about mushrooms that are part of the performance work and writing. The stories vary in length, but each were told in one minute (Cage speeding up or slowing down the telling according to the story's length). Tudor in another room was playing two of Cage's compositions. They were recorded simultaneously with neither one hearing the other. A number of these stories have to do with mushrooms. In the 1990's NYMS made a compilation and they are planning to do something again this year in honor of Cage's 100th Anniversary.
The program also included a "hymn to mycology" and a fungal gift lottery.
It is curious how mycological societies the world over tend to have the same events in their social programs.
About 80 friends of mushrooms/mushroom hunters took part in the event.
As one might expect, the menu was full of fungi:
- Crabmeat soup and bamboo fungus and stinkhorn mushroom
- Bean curd and assorted mushrooms
- Abalone, Bok Choy and Chinese black mushrooms
- Silk Squash, Bamboo Fungus and Enoki mushrooms
- E-Fu Noodles with black mushrooms

Mushroom starter
I was invited to a lovely four-course dinner with mushroom enthusiasts around the table when I learned something new:
Fry your winter chanterelles in oil over high heat
(after allowing the mushroom juices to dry out).
This crisps up the mushrooms while cooking them.
Serve with delicious slices of Valdres sausage and wild berries in creme fraiche.
Second course: smoked salmon with creamed potatoes
with a combo of green peas and sugar snaps
Third course: blue cheese with mushroom marmelade
Fourth course: orange segments in light syrup,
served with a mixture of mascapone, sour cream, vanilla bean and icing sugar.

Blåkjøttbukkesopp
En slørsopp med blåfiolette skiver i unge eksemplarer.
Soppen har en sterk lukt, beskrevet som "svidd kjøtt",
men også som "brent horn, geitefjøs, bukk eller carbidgass" -
sikkert nyttig for dem som vet hvordan slikt lukter.

Soppturen går til ...Malaysia
Byen Taiping i Malaysia har en vakker "Lake Gardens".
Like ved er fjellet "Larut" hvor man kan man dra på sopptur.
Enten tar man jeepen...

Noen av soppene er meget fremmede for en som er mer vant til norske sopper.
